May's update wouldn't let some PCs start, so June had to fix it
May 2025 security update left some Windows 11 devices unable to start
The market's verdict: +2.1% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
After the May 13, 2025 security update, some Windows 11 machines failed to boot or dropped into recovery mode, which is the sort of thing you probably want to test before shipping. Microsoft needed until June 2, a full Patch Tuesday cycle plus three weeks, to ship the out-of-band fix. Until then, the official advice for affected machines was restore, revert or wait, the traditional three pillars of modern Windows administration.
This one is officially acknowledged.
