What actually happened
On July 23, 2026, an eleven hour outage starting mid morning took out SharePoint, OneDrive, Teams, Copilot Chat, Loop and Power Automate across North America, with SharePoint alone drawing most of the thousands of Downdetector reports. Microsoft's root cause: a maintenance update mistakenly removed IP routes from more devices than intended. The network equivalent of a Janitor removing doors to clean them. Service returned that night when someone put the routes back.
