Minecraft's chat police got jurisdiction over your private server
Minecraft 1.19.1 added chat reporting with bans reaching private servers
The market's verdict: +9.1% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
Update 1.19.1, released July 27, 2022, let players report signed chat to Mojang and Microsoft, with bans that applied across all online play, including private, self-hosted servers that the company did not run, host or pay for. The community revolted under SaveMinecraft, a petition circulated, and the No Chat Reports mod, which strips the signature system out, has been downloaded more than 124 million times, one of the most popular protest mods ever written. Mojang held firm, calling the system here to stay. Buy the sandbox, run your own world, and the moderation policy still follows you home.
This one is well documented.
