"Unlimited" OneDrive storage had a limit after all: one terabyte
Microsoft capped "unlimited" OneDrive at 1TB and cut the free tier to 5GB
The market's verdict: +2.9% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
On November 2, 2015, Microsoft announced that Office 365 subscribers' "unlimited" OneDrive storage would be capped at one terabyte, explaining that a small number of users had stored over 75TB each, 14,000 times the average, and that this had ruined unlimited for everybody. The free tier was simultaneously cut from 15GB to 5GB, and the 100GB plan retired. A 70,000-vote petition followed, and on December 11 Microsoft partially walked it back, letting existing users opt in to keep their 15GB plus camera roll, while admitting the announcement had come across as blaming customers. The dictionary definition of unlimited was left as an exercise for the reader.
This one is well documented.
