What actually happened

Starfield is Bethesda's game, and Bethesda is Microsoft's studio, acquired with ZeniMax for 7.5 billion dollars in 2021, so when Bethesda shipped the paid Creations system in June 2024 it was Microsoft's store doing the selling. The second Trackers Alliance mission, The Vulture, cost 700 credits, roughly seven dollars, except credits came in 1,000-packs, so in practice ten. After months of thin post-launch support, players review-bombed the game's Steam rating to Mostly Negative, and Todd Howard conceded "we hear that feedback, too". Horse armor entered its second era, this time with a first-party budget behind it.

This one is well documented.
