The disaster all other disasters are measured in
Windows Vista launched January 30, 2007, and became the industry's unit of disappointment
The market's verdict: -3.0% on MSFT in the week after.
What actually happened
This site measures every Microsoft failure in Vistas, so the meter stick deserves its own entry. Windows Vista reached consumers on January 30, 2007 after years of delays, with driver support so thin that peripherals died on contact, hardware demands that minted the Vista Capable sticker fiasco next door, and User Account Control dialogs so persistent that dismissing them became the era's mini game. It was fine, eventually, two service packs later, by which point the world had committed to Windows XP until further notice. Every entry on this site is measured against this one. One Vista, by definition, and it earned the definition.
This one is officially acknowledged.
They did it more than once
The stickers promised Vista. The launch delivered about sixty percent of it.
